Something Old is New Again - Text-based Games in Class

Game design, is the hot buzzword in education. But are students ready to create graphic intense games? Are teachers and school infrastructures? Turning the clock back to the dawn of the personal computer may be the answer. Remember Zelda? Text based adventures offer many of the benefits of game creation. Allowing teachers to engage active gamers, teach using digital tools to create digital content, storytelling, creative writing, logic and programming. All without the overhead of fancy graphics. Mark with introduce an open source program he used in a tech enrichment class. The students created a zombie filled town with cowboys and miners set in a steampunk world. Come explore the town of Two Stones.
